Aizhan Sultan is a singer, songwriter and artistic researcher. Her music draws inspiration from Kazakh folk music, western pop and electronic music. She incorporates traditional instruments (Kazakh jaw harp and tambourine) and vocal techniques (folk and throat singing) into various music genres, creating her own unique soundscape.
Her art reflects on her journey around the world and her inner political and social experiences. She is collaborating regularly with Finnish live electronics musician Saku Liimatainen, and their duo is performing internationally. They have been invited to perform in the WOMEX 2026 showcase in Gran Canaria.
Aizhan Sultan was born in the northern side of Kazakhstan and has been living in Finland since 2021. As an achondroplastic woman, Aizhan has an intimate relationship with political power as a source of oppression, but also solidarity and art as a force of emancipation.
